Time capsule to the 60s for the modern kitchen princess

"You never cook?!" my father said, disbelievingly, when I said that my fiancé is my personal Jamie Oliver. "No, never," I agreed. Yep, you read it correctly: I only enter the kitchen in case of an absolute emergency. Or when sweet treats are being baked. Apart from this, the kitchen is my boyfriend's domain. And we wouldn't want it any other way.

Sometimes I imagine what it would be like to live in the 60s or 70s. Back then I would probably make meatloaf for my other half in a pretty pleated skirt to the tones of 'Sugar Sugar'. That's a strange image to picture for myself. Unreal even. Partly because nowadays my friend regularly chases me out of the kitchen to the feminist tones of ‘Who run the world? Girls!’.

"The boyfriend soon turns from being a charming Jamie Oliver into a grumpy Gordon Ramsay when I don't cut the mushrooms to his liking."

Perhaps this is a good thing. Put my fiancé and I together in a kitchen and I bet our wedding plans will be gone in no time. The boyfriend soon turns from being a charming Jamie Oliver into a grumpy Gordon Ramsay when I don't cut the mushrooms to his liking.

I think it's great that I am not the only one responsible for the household. I would make a terrible housewife anyway: I can't even remember to take the bins out. My fiancé has to remind me, resulting in the whole neighbourhood getting a glimpse of my unfiltered just-out-of-bed look. Not my proudest moment.

The only traces of the 60s and 70s that can still be found in our kitchen? The new retro collection of Brabantia! The only welcome nod to all those exemplary housewives (and now also: men!) I admire so much. The striking retro print makes this collection a real eye-catcher in your kitchen. Amazing cooking skills unfortunately not included.
