Kitchen worktops – how to keep yours clean and tidy

Transform your kitchen worktops by finding a home for everything. There’s nothing more satisfying than preparing a meal on a clear surface, without having to tidy up first. We’ll show you 8 tricks to organise your worktops.

Remove things you don't use often. Do you really need the sandwich toaster or food blender out on display?

Stash your stuff. Use food containers to store cereals, tea, coffee and sugar and put them in cupboards. Transparent storage containers are great as you can easily see what you've got.

It’s all about organisation and clever storage.

Invest in a bread bin. Avoid all those crumbs and unsightly packets of bread and rolls just left on the worktop. A stylish bread bin will keep your bread and bakery goodies out of sight and fresh too.

An empty worktop gives you space to work.

Seek out that wasted space. Open your cupboards. How much wasted space can you see at the tops and behind the doors? Putting in extra shelves and baskets on the backs of doors will create a lot of extra storage areas.

Use a kitchen roll holder. This is a functional item that every kitchen needs. Either choose a free-standing or wall-mounted holder and keep your kitchen roll within easy reach.

Make things more efficient in your kitchen and keep those worktops clean and clutter-free!

Shelves on the outside. Shelves on walls and the sides of cabinets can be super functional and hold all your kitchen extras like books, your favourite kitchenware and appliances. Store smaller items in baskets or boxes to add a stylish touch to the shelves.

Use an island. Even the smallest of kitchens can accommodate a mobile island (or butcher’s block) with shelves to store all those extras that take up space on your worktops. Choose one with open sides so you can find things easily.

Wall storage. Use upright racks and rails to store utensils, pots and pans, herbs and mugs. There are plenty of good-looking wall storage systems out there, with hooks, shelves and hanging containers.
