How do you wash your curtains without creases?

Curtains provide atmosphere, warmth, coolness and privacy, and they bring dusk and darkness. But, once a year, your window decor needs a break and it's time for a proper cleaning. Or washing. Do you know how to get your curtains back on the curtain rails without creases?

Why aren't creased curtains beautiful?

You can compare your curtains with your own clothes. It sets the tone, and it says something about your home or yourself. Curtains also quickly stand out. That's why it's nice to always have neat curtains. So no creases.

How do you prevent those creases when washing curtains?

Besides washing, there are some clever things to do before and after washing. For example, it is best to take the curtains off at the right time of year. You also have to follow the washing labels carefully. You can read exactly how this preparation, washing and aftercare takes place below.

How do you wash curtains to prevent those creases?

Before washing

  • The curtains should be taken off on a hot day, so a hot spring or summer day. Take them outside and gently beat any dust out of the textile.
  • Read the washing labels with the listed washing program carefully. Please note that if the letter A, P or F appears on it, your window decor may only be dry cleaned. If this is the case, you don't have to wash them yourself, but you have to take your curtains or netting to the dry cleaners.
  • We know how not to remove the curtain hooks during washing! How? Fold the top edge of each curtain or netting with hooks together. Now place a pillowcase around the package, and tie it tightly with a rope or elastic. What's more, now the hooks won't damage the textile. Isn't that great?

During and after washing

  • When doing the washing yourself, place the pillowcase package in the washing machine. Don't overfill the drum, and wash the curtains at a low temperature with a small amount of gentle washing powder. Spin at the lowest setting.
  • Once the curtains are washed, remove the elastic or rope from the pillowcase and remove your curtains from the pillowcase. Unfold the curtains.
  • Last and easiest step, hang your curtains again. On the curtain rails, or on a rotary clothesline. So not in the dryer. Just hang them wet, with your windows and doors open so you can get more dry air circulating.

And that's it! The easy way to get your window decor back as new, and you're ready to face another year.
